As of today, i’ve uploaded my logo for Modular Lessons.com! I wanted to briefly explain the process of this. Though the timeline of this was quite short, it’s quite impactful of how things will go forward.
The Issue
As I keep posting more content on this site, I make it important to take a step back and see how the site to improve. Of course, being new to this, there are a lot of things to improve. A major improvement would be the branding.
The Idea
When creating a design for the logo, I wanted to make sure it reflected what this site stood for (…duh!). So what did it stand for? How do I translate that to a graphic?
Well i’ve said in other posts to constantly learn so I figured a good idea would to use the brain. I mean, it’s what you use everyday and how you retain information. But thinking more about it, just like how the vast array of technology topics overlap, so does the brain. This organ has lobes that have their functions for regulating the body. These lobes work together to form the powerful brain.
Technology has been categorized in many topics that humanity has tried to enhance independently. At some point, that one topic overlaps with one or many other technologies to function properly. To fully understand the concept, you need to comprehend all of the moving parts working together.
This crazy explanation i conjured up made visualize a brain with synapses connecting different parts of the brain.
The Process
Once I had a rough idea of what I wanted, I need to have the idea come to life. Unfortunately, my sketches were not going to be sufficient. Also, i’m not well versed in graphic design. I had to make a decision. Either devote time in learning graphic design to create a logo or pay someone to do it for me.
What helped me decide this was from one of my colleagues from work. On a similar thing, they mentioned to me that there are times where you decide where your time needs to be allocated towards.
Knowing myself, my initial answer was to find videos to learn this. And there is no harm in that! It actually aligns with my belief of being well-rounded when it comes to obtaining knowledge. Though what i had to consider is time. I would want this to be something that would be satisfactory for a long time and overall have this blog run a long time. With running this by myself, you can devote only so much time before outside help makes more sense. To me, it was logical to hire someone to create something rather than me struggle to get this going.
Acting on this decision, I started searching for freelancers. Usually options are agencies or freelancers. I leaned more towards freelancers because my funds for this were small but also the job is more simplistic that it wouldn’t require a whole team. I went to Fiverr.com and looked at graphic designers. I found a suitable person and gave them my ideas. After 1 – 2 days, I had a design I was happy with and here we are.
Takeaway
I’m really excited for moments like this. The process of seeing a project, such as this site, evolve to its best form. Witnessing the improvements makes me proud and hope others appreciate it.
Also if you need any graphic design work and are leaning more towards freelancers, go to gorilladezines on Fiverr. She is a great person to work with and made this whole project simple. Her rates are also affordable for those on tight budgets. Thank you and take care!
