I PASSED THE NETWORK+ EXAM!!

On November 22nd, I went to take the exam for the Network+. I can say that I officially passed the exam. Going through this process, I first thought it was no big deal since it was entry level certification. However, reflecting back I started giving myself more credit. I believe this test covers a lot of material for a beginner (despite the excuse that it covers the core concepts of networking scenarios). Many people had a similar idea on blog posts i’ve read while studying. I’ve decided that

So what’s next? Well a few things,

  1. Focusing on Windows Server 2016. I’ll be brief here (will make another post about it), but wanted to state what some future goals are there for me. I think it makes to move this direction and will be very applicable to my job. I would like to go straight to learning Azure, Cloud platforms, etc. but I think i have to step back and go more of a fundamental level to be confident in touching those services.
  2. Back to programming. I’m trying to balance the right amount of time to fit programming into my schedule again. I really want to dive deep into it. When the studying for this test came about, I had to make some sacrifices. Specifically, i had to stop playing around with code to have more time for Network+. I tried really hard at first to learn both but with so many hours in a day and my test deadline shorter than i initially planned, it was necessary. Now with no major tests planned, i like to get back to it.
  3. Job-related certs/learning. I started working with a new client at my job. It’s been fine for now, but i’m still getting used to it. Especially when it comes to the technology aspect. We are using a different type networking infrastructure called Cisco Meraki which i’ve heard of but never used. Also the consultant leverages VDI which in itself is a new construct to how to computer for the average corporate user so supporting it will require knowing how all it works. i’m excited to learn it, but I know I also have to sit down and understand the inner workings.
  4. Lastly, this blog! To be honest, my effort towards this platform has been lackluster. I didn’t realize the energy and effort it takes to get this going (for how little it is now). Now realizing this, i’m organizing time to address this, and hopefully have it become a platform for people to read. I also want it as a learning experience on how to manage CMS, to how to run a blog since blogging has become a big way for us humans to express ideas on the internet. I hope with stuff i’m trying to learn i post it here for myself to retain but also for anyone that reads this. Spread the knowledge wealth so to speak 🙂

To wrap things up, this test has proven to me that even if you’re not good or proficient in something, giving serious time and effort (along with learning mistakes) will greatly benefit your outcome in understanding the topic. I know i’m still not good at networking. I mean i’m going over the material from my resources again to get a better understanding. But i know I can still learn and work with it versus be afraid and close myself off of that because I didn’t go to school or just know at a fundamental level.

Just give it your best and that’s all you should ask for. don’t be afraid of failure. Learn from it! Stay tuned for more!
